The Night Diary
Regardless of where Nisha is, what is the one place she can always find peace in the novel, The Night Diary?
.
.
The kitchen, of any house, is Nisha's favourite place. As in her own home, with Kazi, at Rashid Uncle's house she manages not only to find peace while cooking delicious meals for her family but also to bond with those around her and build deep relationships. Similarly, while her family is on the road, Nisha creates a kitchen as if out of nowhere, using the fire Papa builds for her to cook meals, stay active, and remain helpful. The kitchen is Nisha's place to escape from her troubles, but it is also the source of the bravery she needs to turn around and dispel those troubles. In Jodhpur, Nisha says that the family's new kitchen is smaller than their old one, but she and Kazi are able to turn it into a place of wonder while they prepare a variety of dishes together and imbue the new house with a sense of belonging and familiarity.
