In the beginning of chapter 8 Elwood "returned to the yard crew" (64) after a several day stay in what location
Elwwod spent several days convalescing in the school infirmary after being beaten in the White House. The White House is the name of a small, detached edifice on the Nickel School grounds, where staff members sometimes take the students to punish them. These punishments are severe beatings.
