Who is Eddie Simmonette from The New Confessions and what is their importance?

Eddie Simmonette is the wealthy owner of a movie company. His real name is Aram, but he changes it to escape his European roots. Eddie is devoted to John until he is accused of being a Communist, after which, he denies their friendship. Eddie does, however, secretly continue to help John.
