Why did M. Loisel expect his wife to be pleased to recieve the invitation from the Minister of Education?

M. Loisel knew that his wife brooded over never being invited to fancy parties, having the ability to mingle, and simply being able to go out.... celebrate, and dress up. Thus, he thought she would be thrilled with the invitation, whereas, Mathilde simply threw it back in his face, complaining about the things she didn't have.
