How does the author use foreshadowing in The Mousetrap?

The London murder and Mr. Paravicini's announcement that the roads are so snowed in that that there will be no further arrivals or departures, in addition to his strange pronouncement that the inn is just "perfect" makes Mo! lie and Giles uneasy, foreshadowing trouble at the inn.
