Who is the antagonist in The Monkey's Paw by W. W. Jacobs?

We aren't sure but it is Sergeant-Major Morris who brings the evil Monkey paw into the White's residence. He warns them about it but, on some level, he might have known that the White's would not be able to resist testing its power.
