What is Shivgarh?

Shivgarh in Uttar Pradesh, India is one of the first locations that the foundation invested in by sending Doctor Vishwajeet to improve programs for mothers and newborns. Considered to be the “epicenter of newborn and maternal deaths” (39), Shivgarh was an important place to begin to understand the struggles of mothers and newborns in poverty. The successes here show how important it is to meet people where they are and understand their beliefs and make changes from within. This concept becomes one of the most important values for all future programs that the foundation creates and interacts with.
