Senegal, West Africa is important in the scope of Melinda’s message because it shows how all the various layers of complicated, social issues can successfully come together and change the world. The Sengalese people have lived with ancient traditions including child marriage and female cutting. And many people believe that these are an honor, not realizing how dangerous and dis-empowering it is. But when people like Molly were willing to come into the country and encourage discussion between the villagers, their viewpoints changed. And by altering the views of one village, they were able to change the customs of all the other ones. This is proof that worldviews can change if given the tools and patience to do so.
