What is Avahan?

Avahan is a program started by the foundation to combat an HIV epidemic. Over the first years of its creation, however, it developed a connection with the sex workers in India, providing tools to stop police brutality against the workers, as well as safe havens in community centers. Avahan is an example of how a program can grow independent of those who fund it. Melinda admits that she and Bill would not have approved of things such as the community centers because they would not have understood the necessity for it. Avahan brought together the women that society had neglected, and worked with them to stop the HIV epidemic with a few years.
