India is one of the places that Melinda visits the most over the many years of work at the foundation. Fundamentally, India is an interesting country to look at. In some respects, it is as advanced as other countries with apps to help stop child marriages to forward thinking laws on contraceptives, and extensive research to spread things like vaccine. At the same time, India’s caste system creates many outsiders. This includes the Musahar that Sister Sudha works with and the sex workers that are considered untouchable except for their services. India is an example of a country that has many challenges to overcome - such as spread out villages and ingrained, social constructs - but has also developed many successful programs to tackle such issues.
