In Chapter 15, an old lady finds Edward lying in the road. She picks Edward up and says that she has a use for him, but no further discussion is given. If the lady did say anything, Edward is not paying attention to her. He is so depressed and heartbroken over being lost from Bull and Lucy that he no longer cares what is said to him. The lady sings about her troubles and Edward halfheartedly listens thinking that no one fully understands the troubles he is going through. Once the lady reaches her home, she ties Edward to a post along with some old pans. She tells Edward that he will be scaring off the crows that are always in her garden.
