Why is Gregor grateful to have a lock on his bedroom door in The Metamorphosis?

After Gregor's mother comes to the door to see if he has forgotten about his train, the rest of the Samsas join her to see what the problem is. Gregor is unsure how to deal with his newly transformed body, and he is not ready to reveal himself to his family, so he is grateful for the lock on his door.
