Importance: Ma is trying to make Minni understand the rules she has to follow in order to work for Anita. Minni realizes that Ma is not treated kindly by her employers, and Minni endures this for weeks while Ma is away. This is one example of the difference money makes. Minni's family is poor and endures the abuse. Anita's family is rich and feels entitled to be rude and demanding.
