On page 116 What does Frenchie mean when he said “It's just when you could go one direction and have life turn one way, or go another direction and have life be completely a different way, it’s nerve-wracking.”?

Frenchie is talking about having to react to change, a kind of change that is often brutal and disheartening. Frenchie and his group are constantly on the run and having to change course or direction.
