What accidently happens while Dave is at work the morning after he buys the gun in the story, The Man Who Was Almost a Man?

While is the field plowing, Dave fires the gun, and its strong recoil causes him to drop it. When he looks up, he sees Jenny, the mule pulling the plow, running across the field. Once he catches up with her he sees that she is bleeding.... Dave accidently shot Jenny.
