How do people react to the main character on the street? What does she do to avoid their reaction?

People on the street become upset because they believe that the main character is mocking them. They become increasingly upset because she cannot stop. She also becomes increasingly upset. Eventually she ducks into an alley to calm herself down and avoid the social tension her disorder is creating.
