What do you think is the author's purpose in telling the story?

In my opinion, the author's purpose is to inform the reader that handicapped people can live and experience normal lives. The circumstances will likely be different, and their lives will be different from most of our own, and yet, they can move out of their families home and pursue their own interests... they can even fall in love.
