What does the final chapter say about Spade's character?

The author leaves the novel on a hopeful note, revealing that Spade does have a code of honor that he will not violate. Throughout the story, Spade has swayed his allegiance to the party with the most to offer him, but in the end he knows the right thing to do and does it.
