How does SPade calm Brigid down in the tenth chapter?

Brigid has been waiting for a few hours in Spade's office and tells Spade that her apartment has been ransacked. She is frightened to return. The best solution Spade can devise on the spot is for Brigid to stay at Effie's house until Spade can think of a better plan.
