Describe the story Spade tells Brigid at the beginning of the seventh chapter?

Spade tells Brigid a story about a man who disappeared from his family in Seattle, wandered for awhile before beginning a new family in the same area. Spade finds it intriguing that the man could adjust to another new life similar to the one he abandoned and without another thought.
