How does the author use foreshadowing in The Lovely Bones?

At the start of the novel, foreshadowing is already prevalent in the text. These clues include Susie's observation that she can smell Harvey before she sees him....... that he knows her name, even though she doesn't know him, and that Harvey...... a grown man, has a hiding place. Susie sees all of these things as strange but fails to act on her first instincts.
