Who is Gaia from The Lost Hero and what is their importance?

Gaia is the novel's main antagonist, and the primordial goddess of the Earth. She is described as forceful, vengeful and often cruel. Born from Chaos, Gaia does not care for civilization and humanity as the Olympian gods do. Gaia is the 'patron' that all the monsters and other enemies refer to.
