In The Lord of the Rings, Frodo and the other hobbits are staying at the Prancing Pony. Merry has a little too much to drink and is about to tell everyone about their quest and how Frodo can disappear. In order to stop him and distract the people in the tavern, Frodo stands on a table and offers to sing a song. They like it so well that he has to sing more than one, and when it turns quite lively and gets a little rough, he falls off of the table and the ring slips onto his finger. He vanishes and it freaks everyone out. Luckily, Strider ushers him out of the room quickly.
