Stebbins is determined to complete the walk, what prize is his ultimate goal in the novel, The Long Walk?

It's not until almost at the end of the walk that Garraty learns that Stebbins is the illegitimate son of the Major. He says that he plans to make the Major acknowledge him as his Prize and that seems to spur him on long past the point of normal endurance.
