How does Barkovitch respond to Garraty's proposal in Chapter 12?

Barkovitch first screams at Scramm for coming on the walk when he has a wife. He responds in his usual sarcastic manner. When Garraty begins to walk off, Barkovitch calls him back and explains how he's not such a bad guy, but that he always starts off on the wrong foot with people. He finally agrees to the proposal.
