Who is Lonnie Morgan from The Long Goodbye and what is their importance?

Lonnie Morgan is a reporter. He picks up Marlowe at the police department to give him a ride home. When Marlowe has Eileen's suicide note in his possession, he takes it to Morgan, knowing that he is only reporter in town who will print it because of Harlan Potter's influence.
