Why do Mrs. Brewer and Miss Winthrop get into a small disagreement?

Mrs. Brewer and Miss Winthrop get into a disagreement about admitting Negro women into the WEC. Mrs. Brewer is completely against the idea, claiming it would be the end of the WEC. Miss Winthrop, on the other hand, completely supports the integration of schools.
