Why did Percy think it was silly for Grover to want to protect him

Percy mentions that he doesn't want anyone to get hurt on his account and recalls how Grover tried to protect him while taking him to Camp Half-Blood almost getting killed by the Minotaur. Percy didn't even know Grover well at this point. He wonders why Grover put his life on the line against a giant Minotour.
