How did both Charlie and Pete deliver the news to their daughters that they were getting a divorce?

After the family moved to Colorado, Mary didn't really notice that her parents were beginning to spend all their time apart, so when they sat her down in the bedroom and announced that they were getting a divorce, Mary was shocked. Pete openly wept and apologized to the girls, but Charlie sat stone-faced while delivering the news.
