Anytus was an Athenian politician during the years around 399 BC., when Athens had re-established its democratic political stability. Anytus was personally offended by the questioning of Socrates, which seemed to undermine the sense of certainty regarding their own decisions and sense of personal wisdom. Socrates refers to him in the Apology, and he also appears in the notes for this dialog.
