Describe symbolism in The Lady with the Pet Dog by Anton Chekhov

The mirror that Gurav looks into near the end of the story becomes a symbol of self-awareness. He sees his ageing body and realizes that Anna too is ageing yet he still loves her. He finally has respect and love for a woman.
