The Mexican loves Form because it allows him to stay locked inside himself. When Form is adhered to, there are no personal surprises. People are less likely to intrude on him, and are less likely to make demands that his privacy cannot allow. Form both sets limits on a man's privacy; and protects that privacy from intruders. This love of Form expresses itself in many ways other than in personal relationships. Form appears in all types of art: Poetry, architecture, literature, and painting. It appears in political institutions. It appears in the Mexican love of formalism, regardless of the content. Thus Form becomes not only a part of the Mexican character; but also a tangible portion of his physical world.
