The Labyrinth of Solitude: Life and Thought in Mexico
The search for place is a search for the center of the universe. How does that tie in with the title of the book?

The search for place is a search for the center, the navel, of the universe. Man feels lost and thus his search leads him toward something good, toward the communion with the world that he lost at birth. But sadly, man's search has become confused. He is wandering in the labyrinth of ideas that his reason has created. The idea of a labyrinth then, accurately expresses Paz's opinion about where man is. Not only is man far from the center of the universe, but he is now also hopelessly lost in a maze of his own creation. According to Paz, the prospects for modern man are quite grim.
