Independence in Mexico began at a time when Spain was particularly weak. Faith had died in Spain, and it had far-reaching effects, including the loss of its colonial state. Mexico only had to reach out and remove the withered hand of power, and she was free. That moment is very different from the Conquest, a time when Spain was most strong and wealthy. Spain easily overtook the Aztec dynasty and indigenous tribes, and subjected them to her rule. But her power faded, and when it did, Mexico was able to take back control of her own people.
