What happens to Celeste that causes many of the slaves and Caldonia to begin questioning their faith in Moses?

Celeste is six months pregnant when Moses forces her to work in the fields even though she does not feel well. Celeste goes into labor and gives birth to a stillborn daughter in the fields, causing most of the slaves and Caldonia to question their faith in Moses and his compassion as overseer.
