How does John Skiffington get killed?

John Skiffington is killed when his cousin, Counsel Skiffington, discovers gold twenty-dollar pieces in Mildred's house. Counsel wants the treasure all to himself, so he picks up Mildred's gun and shoots his cousin, making it appear as though Mildred shot Skiffington as he shot her.
