Who is Farid from The Kite Runner and what is their importance?

Farid is an Afghan driver who drives Amir from Peshawar to Kabul. He ends up aiding Amir during his return to Afghanistan. He was injured fighting the Soviets and is a patriot to his country. He eventually saves Amir by taking him to an emergency hospital in Pakistan.
