What is the theme in The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini?

There are many themes you can consider. I think that a large theme has to do with identity and belonging. Amir struggles with his identity throughout the novel. He longs to belong both in Baba's eyes and in Hassan's eyes. All the main characters struggle with indentity at some point in the book.
