The candles are the focal point of the opening of Chapter Eighteen. Eve is there to meet Dom. The candles strike terror in the heart of the reader. The spooky place with all the candles that Dom uses in his killing. He is coming out into the light to kill Eve. He wants her surrounded by his symbols.
