How are the technologies of the Flat Trans and the Transvices described in Chapter 49?

Alec asks Mark if he knows how a Flat Trans works. They work by disassembling the molecular structure and reassembling it at some other point. Alec reveals that the Transvice only breaks molecular structures apart. Alec begins to charge several of the weapons while they then set about preparing for the rescue mission.
