Who is George Drouillard from The Journals of Lewis and Clark and what is their importance?

George Drouillard was the son of a French Canadian father and a Shawnee mother. He was hired by Lewis for his skills as an interpreter and hunter. He was not part of the military, but his superior hunting skills and ability to serve as an interpreter for sign language as well as native Shawnee language made him an integral part of the expedition. Drouillard completed the journey of the Corps of Discovery and safely delivered Lewis' expedition reports to the postmaster in Cahokia. Drouillard was killed by Indians during a fur trading expedition in 1810.
