Main Idea

Wonder and the magic of film both work into the main idea or theme of the story. Hugo definitely has a tough life. He is an orphan who has to wind clocks all day in a Paris train station. Hugo's curiosity and imagination leads him to many adventures with tinkering with parts, an automaton, and the magic of early film.
