Guare makes wide use of animal imagery throughout the play. Bananas, for example, often acts like an animal. While this may seem crazy, it also symbolizes her virtuous and honest nature in the face of Bunny and Artie's shallow values. Even Billy Einhorn perceives this when he tells Artie that he should be happy with what he has.
