Who is Melissa Greene from The House Next Door and what is their importance?

After moving into the haunted house, Melissa comes down with a mysterious illness. She is hospitalized and sent home. Unfortunately, Susan Greene, Melissa's mother, believes the source of her daughter's illness to be connected to the house.... as a result, she shoots her daughter to death.
