The Hobbit, Chapter 8: Why does Bilbo believe that there is no end to the forest after he climbs up the tall oak to have a look around?

The tree that Bilbo climbed was actually standing at the bottom of a wide valley, so from its top of the trees seemed to swell up all round like edges of a great bowl. Ch 8
