How does J. R. R. Tolkien use imagery in The Hobbit?

The imagery is so varied depending on the place they are proceeding through. The names of these places, like the Misty Mountains, paint a picture of the type of imagery you might see. Dark caves, thick forests, thin paths up wondrous mountains fill the story with colors and atmosphere.
