Who is DeVante from The Hate You Give?

DeVante is a member of King's gang, the King Lords. His brother is killed at Big D's party the same night Khalil is shot. King wants DeVante to retaliate against his brother's killers, but instead of doing as he's told, DeVante steals money from the King Lords to get his mother and sister out of the neighborhood.

Maverick takes DeVante under his wing to get him away from the influence of the gangs, moving him in with Starr's uncle, Carlos, in Riverton Hills. DeVante later returns to Garden Heights and takes part in the protests with Starr, Seven, and Chris after the grand jury fails to indict Officer Cruise.
