Who is Chris from The Hate You Give?

Chris is Starr's boyfriend. He is white, and he goes to school with Starr at Williamson Prep. The couple experiences friction in their relationship because Chris doesn't entirely understand the issues of racial injustice Starr faces. Chris, however, is open-minded and asks Starr to educate him. Chris cares deeply for Starr, he supports her, and exhibits bravery by going to Garden Heights with Starr and Seven during the violent protests at the end of the novel. Starr and Chris frequently bond over their mutual love of the sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
