What is the source of Velan's admiration in Chapter 2?

In Chapter 2, Velan declares his admiration for Raju. Velan believes Raju's spiritual guidance is the reason for his sister's change of heart. She has agreed to marry her cousin and apologized for her childish ways in the past. Velan places Raju as the reason for all of his new found good fortune.
