What are the motifs in The Guest by Albert Camus?

Violence is definitely a motif in this story. Violence is everywhere but nowhere. From the gun Balducci offers Daru to the impending rebellion to the Arab murdering his cousin, the threat of violence pervades this story. Even after Daru gives the Arab his freedom, Daru is threatened. Threat of violence builds but ultimately it is left to the reader to infer.
